The Dashing Kennel is a working sled dog kennel in scenic northern Idaho, conveniently located near hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails to train on.   Jill and Bob Wilson are avid winter recreation enthusiasts and have been involved with sledding, skijoring and sled dogs for over 16 years.   Jill is a member of the Inland Empire Sled Dog Association, Mush with Pride, Samoyed Club of America, Organization for the Working Samoyed, Inland Northwest Samoyed Fanciers, International Sibieran Husky Club and the  Coeur d' Alene Dog Fanciers.

Our focus at the Dashing Kennel is on raising, training and racing canine athletes for carting and sledding events.  We have three types of dogs in the kennel, Samoyeds, Alaskan Huskies, and Siberian Huskies.

The Samoyed is a survivor of harsh arctic life as sledge and herding dog, a dog with both unparalleled beauty as well as rugged working ability.  Today's samoyed is both beautiful and a versatile canine athlete, found competing in agility, obedience, herding, weightpull and skijoring and sledding.

The Alaskan Husky is a mixed breed husky, not a registered dog.  There is no closed stud book.  Their bloodlines include old village dogs from Alaska, hounds, siberian huskies, Irish Setter, and most recently German Short haired pointer.  The Alaskan Husky may vary depending depending upon the needs and desires of the musher who uses him/her.  Alaskan huskies are the premier performance racing canine athletes, dominating performance sled dog events from sprint to the ultra distance events such as the Iditarod.

The Siberian Husky, like the Samoyed is a purebred breed.  Like the Samoyed, it originates from Siberia.  Unlike the Samoyed, their primary use has been as sled dog and the Siberian has a very strong desire to run and to work in harness.  The Siberian is a breed of great beauty as well as athleticism.  To stand on the runners behind a well trained team of siberians is to experience poetry in motion.

What's New?

Welcome to the Dashing Kennel website.   What's new at Dashing?

It is January 2010 and we brought in the new year with some beautiful runs at Priest Lake and near Coeur d'Alene.  The weather gods seem to have something else in mind for us this winter in northern Idaho.  Snow came late and has subsequently been followed by warm temperatures and rain.  It is turning into the winter that wasn't. The first sprint race of the season, Frog Lake was cancelled.   Hopefully though snow will return and so will we to the beautiful trails that surround us.

Two more lovely Siberian Huskies have come to  join the kennel from Oregon.  Ernie and Roper are Cooper's littermates and powerful  sled dogs.  They join Cooper and McGee to form a 4 dog siberian husky team.
